In designing the icon for our personal web server application, WorldWideWeb, we wanted to create a feeling of having the entire internet at your fingertips as well as in your macOS Dock. We placed a luminous network sphere inside a container that utilizes the familiar profile of apps on iOS and macOS. The result is a distinctive icon that is easily spotted on the desktop or iOS home screen.
With an updated, modern feel, the app icon pays homage to the NeXT cube desktop PC that was used to originally develop the web. Various concepts were brainstormed until the final version above was finalized.
